Newborn mittens

I had never been around a newborn baby before I had my son…so naturally I forgot to buy him newborn mittens. He was born in the summer, what could possibly need them for? 

I just left his perfectly formed, razor sharp fingernails to their own devices. 

BIG MISTAKE. 

Every time I turned my back he would assault his beautiful face something awful. One of my Mother’s friends jinxed it too, remarking that he was such a beautiful baby with a clear complexion.

No less than 10 minutes later did he resemble Scar from FullMetal Alchemist, with scratches all over his cheeks and forehead. 

It only got worse as time went on. For some strange reason, every time he was hungry or eating, his hands would inevitably creep back to his cheeks and the abuse session would begin. 

I started putting socks on his hands after that. 

Thankfully, it was G-ma (grandma) to the rescue, buying him some proper newborn mittens. 

When he was one month old, I took him to my friend’s graduation party. Her boyfriend asked “Why is he wearing mittens?” The pictures spoke for themselves.
