Skills
This post corresponds to the Momic chapter: “skills.” You can read it on Webtoon here.
My son has gained many skills in the past 6 months. Some louder than others.
I have a running list of my son’s milestones written down in the back of my journal. His first smile, laugh, and more are all recorded. It’s been a real pleasure to watch him grow from the 7 pound baby I met just a few months ago…But there is a new skill he has learnt that hasn’t been received. with the most excitement.
Complaining.
I never thought I would rank this as a skill, but indeed it is. In fact you could say we are all born with that being one of our best. Crying is a baby’s only way to advocate for themselves. However the real art of complaining can be found in my son’s well practiced dinosaur screeches.
At first I thought they were cute. After all, the first few months of life with a baby can seem somewhat monotonous. Sure, They cry and smile; but not with real thought. The social aspect of parenting comes later, when they can track you with their eyes and react.
when my son began to screech I welcomed the development wholly. Finally there was something of a dialouge between us, and even if I couldn’t understand what he was trying to say, it was still more interesting than nothing at all.
Well that has gotten old fast.
All I can think is he won’t have any problem expressing his needs in the future.
(pray for my ears).
